Travel to Shimoni – Kenya’s East African Safari

The beautiful coastal town of Shimoni is easily accessible from Mombasa city in Kenya. This picturesque coastal area is just an hour away from Nairobi city. It has long been a popular travel destination with tourists who are looking for a place to relax and unwind. The Shimoni trip involves a journey to the coastal town by car or coach. However, there is another way that you can take to get to Shimoni if you are unable to drive to the town.

You can travel to Shimoni by sea via Mombasa. There is an eight-day cruise that leaves Mombasa every Friday evening and sails to the coast. The cruise is one of the best options for a relaxing vacation, because it gives you the opportunity to experience the local culture. A Shimoni trip on the sea will also give you a good chance to visit some of the islands that dot the coast.

There is another way to get to Shimoni, and that is by taking a train from the town of Mombasa to the closest major city, Nairobi. If you like, there are tours that depart from the Serena platform every morning and return to Mombasa at evening. The cost of this train journey is about US $15. From the Train station, there are other indirect ways to reach the Shimoni forest, and these include bus services from Mombasa to the outskirts of Shimoni, and from the Serena platform, which are both available late January to early march.

One of the more interesting aspects of a trip to Kenya’s eastern coast is the connection between the Great Rift Valley and the Shimoni region. The Rift Valley is a massive oasis in east Africa, providing residents with an incredible landscape that includes green rolling hills covered with grass, water lily pads, crocodiles, and even human skulls. It was here, in the early years of the last century, that the world’s first colony was established by the slave trade, from the Indian settlement of Masiphumelele, near what is nowiasis.

In addition to being the site of one of the world’s oldest slave trade outposts, the town also became a site for the annual Great Rift Valley Trek, a popular tourist attraction that draws thousands of visitors annually. The trek begins from Mombasa, traveling eastward across the countryside to the mouth of the Rift Valley, where the spectacular scenery changes dramatically. At the mouth of the Rift Valley, the trek ends, and travelers are free to explore the vast fields of grasslands and apple orchards, as well as other stunning scenery. Other attractions in and around Shimoni include the Great Rift Valley National Park, and a tramway that lead to Lake Nakuru, one of Kenya’s largest and deepest lakes.

No matter which activities, tours, or attractions you choose to do on your shimoni trip, there is no doubt that this beautiful region will leave you with fond memories that will last a lifetime. The Rift Valley is also home to a number of popular tourist attractions, including Lake Naivasha, where there is an old-fashioned steam railway built to take visitors down to the historic center of Shimoni Town. While there, be sure to check out the beautiful ‘Shimano Spa Complex’ for a relaxing afternoon in luxury! Whether you want to go on a one-day vacation or spend weeks in one of the many Rift Valley hotels, there is something available for every kind of travel style.
